MY AVIARY SET UP/BIRD ROOM

Cinndy & Blu Barrie Quakers

Furnishings for Rosie and Ozzy have been Timothy Hay, sticks, twigs, popcycle sticks, and straws.

NOTE: We bake our sticks and twigs in oven for about 30 minutes at 300 degrees just to make sure bugs or disease are eliminated.

This is the Black Mask Lovebirds and Blue Mask Lovebird in Fight cage. These are new to my flock.

Several have ask to see my set up.  Here are pictures, I would like to share with you. Hope you enjoy!

We use a "Hawk Eye Live Cam" hooked up to the television set to watch the Quakers build their nest. When the baby hatches, the cam will be moved to the nesting box. On one side of the nesting box we put plexiglass so we can see inside the box.  Won't want to miss the baby Quakers growing and getting fed.

This picture shows the top three cages, to the right shows the bottoms 3 cages. These are Quakers I have stacked 4 high.

All nesting boxes have Plexiglas on them. For their privacy, we put a towel over the box while the birds are nesting.  We also place a web cam  on the ones that are getting ready to hatch.

 Ozzie checking us out

Cages ready for the babies when out of the brooder.

A Quakers clutch is 4-8 eggs. Quakers lay an egg every other day. Incubation usually starts the 3rd day after the second egg is lain. Incubation lasts 26-28 days. Quakers have 2nd clutch when the oldest from the first clutch is 4 weeks old. Quakers rest 3 months then like clock work have another clutch.

Every cage is tagged with birds name and band number. So the escapes can be put back into the right home.

This is a homemade gym we made.  This is where we socialize all the babies.  It is large enough to allow us to all sit around it and play with the babies.  We teach them to perch and to play with toys.  We let them out to play on the gym and socialize twice every day.
